5 Ways To Get More Email Subscribers

Email Marketing Tutorial Part #3

I am going to start by giving you the list of the 5 best ways to get more subscribers, then I will tell you a little about each one, and at the end, I am going to provide a video to help you absorb all that is in this article.

There are basically 5 of the best strategies that are proven over and over to work. Here they are.

  1. Two-Step Opt-In
  2. Content Upgrades
  3. Webinars
  4. Text To Subscribe
  5. Contest/Giveaway

Now to give you a bit of background on each of these one at a time. There is a lot to this, That is why I am breaking it down into 5 articles and each one is segmented to specific strategies. I have also repeated each one several times to help you retain valuable information so you can then expand your knowledge of this and learn to put it to use and gain more subscribers.

1. Two-Step Opt-In

This is as simple as a few clicks if you have signed up for ConvertKit. They make it so easy and all the coding is done for you. All you do is enter your info, copy the code, and embed it on your site. What you get from this is way more than just acquiring an email.

A two-step opt-in is basically where you put a button on your site to click if someone is interested in a product or offer. Once the button is clicked, if using ConvertKit, a pop-up will appear and the background is shaded to remove all distractions. This pop-up then allows them to enter their email to subscribe.

The mentality behind this is from the beginning, you are not standing there with your hand out asking them for something. You gave them a button to click and get something, you are giving not taking. The second step is a point to make a decision. Once on the pop-up, you have two options, Yea or Nah! This makes people more likely to follow through and complete the task they started.

2. Content Upgrades

Sounds like more work doesn’t it? It kind of is upfront, but it is as easy as another simple lead magnet just in a different place. A specific place.

This can be as simple as a checklist or spreadsheet that has to do specifically with the content they are already engaged in. The content you have already studied, researched, and should have no problem creating one more thing.

LeadPages make this process super easy. I recommend them to anyone with a website that is active in marketing any product!

3. Webinars

Webinars are not as complicated as they sound. There are several platforms to help with this. the best I have found is GoToWebinar and Webinar Ninja. The first is a little more pricey but very well supported. The second is more up my alley and the functionality is superb!

If you are unfamiliar with a webinar, it will be intimidating to start but is as easy as having a conversation with a friend. they are typically live but can sometimes be recorded. All you do is share your knowledge on a specific topic within your niche and provide value to all who subscribe.

4. Text to Subscribe

This one is pretty well known by everyone. Have you never sent a text? Well, if you signed up for Lead Pages, this is another awesome feature they have. Lead Digits is part of the services they provide. You can develop and provide a text code to share and after set up, it is all automated and your email list keeps growing!

5. Contest/Giveaway

This one takes some planning and you have to be able to provide the prizes but has been proven to be one of the most successful in the industry. People are competitive, and love to play games!

They also love to win prizes! The bigger the prize the more interested they will be. Make it match what you are promoting and you will have better success!

  1. I enjoyed reading your post on ways to get more email subscribers. I honestly loved the video and it helped me understand the strategies from a different perspective. I had no idea that webinars were this easy to create and an effective way to promote. The contest/giveaway portion of your article seems to be the most fun but also the most difficult to set up. How do you best recommend getting into this section effectively?

      I can see where one would think setting up a contest is so complicated. It really isn’t. There are some steps involved and a little understanding of how the system works but the contest itself is super simple. 

      First, it has to be relevant to your niche! Whatever service or product you are providing can have internal benefits that can be used as a reward. It is possible the product or service itself can be used. for example, if you put it out there that you will randomly draw from the list of people who subscribe from one date to another and this person that gets picked gets the product or service for free. From there it is all about analytics and segmenting. This method costs you absolutely nothing and could have a major effect on subscriptions. 

      There are several ways to go about this, Prizes, Cash, free bonus materials you have created, and much more. You do have to make it make sense or it will be perceived as a scam. People are competitive and love getting prizes. If you make it to where they can get a prize for giving you their email, Ta-Da! Your list grows.
